Quiet. Everything around him was without a sound. Impossible. Unnatural. But it was silent. There was no disputing it. The silence reminded him of a tale his parents had once told him. A quiet that had engulfed the world shortly before his mother had felt life beginning to stir within her womb. The all consuming silence which occurred after the great disaster. And then came the tales of humans that had been granted a miracle or a curse depending on how one looked at it. A chance to live instead of die by what others believed to have been the intervention of a god, Skov. Thus had begun, Skov Dynasty.
But at that moment, Pyry did not care. Something was wrong. It had to be, otherwise the creatures of the forest would not have lost their voices nor hidden or chose to flee. Night or day, it didn't matter, there was always sound. However, he heard nothing, saw nothing, except for the leaves of the trees shifting with the wind. Even the wind was slow, clam and cool.
The calm before the storm.
Perhaps that was all it was, a storm. Certainly nothing like the destruction of the world as his parents and their parents had known. So many had lost their lives, others missing and also believed to be dead. Only those within the area protected by Skov had thrived. Which included the forest for which they all believed Skov was a part of - giving them food aplenty in order to survive despite the rest of the world having been completely obliterated.
No matter where he went, Skov, the forest, was there, surrounding all of the lands in a great circle. And no one, could penetrate the fortress - the wall of lumbar that surrounded them. No one could get out and those who had tried time and time again had failed. If there was life outside, Pyry did not know. Perhaps the birds might, but between them was the barrier of different languages. A wolf spoke canine and a bird spoke avian.
Giving his head a shake and letting out a frustrated sigh, he turned to gaze in the direction of a cave that time had eroded into the side of a mountain. Until whatever storm was coming was over, he would stay within the catacombs and then, then he would hunt to satiate his tension and his hunger. Then, he would drink whatever water could be found.
Truthfully, he was just outright tired. Tired of the life he had led and was still leading. He wanted more than what he'd had. Perhaps it was time to discover more of Skov, even if he was unable to leave its confining space though it was large and went for miles upon miles in all directions.
"Perhaps it is time for me to form a pack. And then perhaps, someday, we'll be able to journey beyond this Dynasty."
Pyry just wanted. Wanted more. More than he had ever dared to dream of knowing. One day, he was sure to get that which he sought with all his heart.
Now, to find those who would follow him, whom had the same goal as him in life. To know more, to discover more and perhaps... to understand why the humans had been turned into quadrupeds of the canidae.
